Contract of Carriage : Rule 97
ACCEPTANCE OF BAGGAGE
  1. General Conditions of Acceptance
Carrier will accept for transportation as baggage, such personal property as is necessary or appropriate for the wear, use, comfort, or convenience of the passenger for the purpose of the trip, subject to the following conditions:
    1. All baggage is subject to inspection by the carrier; however, the carrier shall not be obligated to perform inspection. Carrier will refuse to transport or will remove at any point baggage that the passenger refuses to submit for inspection.
    2. Carrier has the right to refuse to transport baggage on any flight other than the one carrying the passenger.
    3. Carrier will refuse to accept property for transportation that is not suitably packaged to withstand ordinary handling; whose size, weight or character renders it unsuitable for transportation on the particular aircraft that is to transport it; that will damage other baggage; that cannot be accommodated without harming or annoying passengers.
    4. Checked baggage will be carried in the same aircraft as the passenger unless such carriage is deemed impractical by carrier, in which event carrier will carry the baggage on the next preceding or subsequent flight on which space is available.
    5. Upon delivery to carrier of the baggage to be checked, carrier will insert in the ticket the number of pieces of the checked baggage (which act shall constitute the issuance of the baggage check); in addition, carrier shall issue for identification purposes only a baggage (claim) tag for each piece of baggage so delivered and covered by the baggage check. All baggage or other property of which the carrier assumes custody and for which it issues a claim check shall be deemed acceptable for transportation by air. Baggage and property of which the carrier will not assume custody and will not issue a claim check will only be accepted if the passenger executes a release in the form set forth in the note below:

Note: The release, to be supplied by the carrier, will relieve carrier from liability for loss of contents of, damage to, or delay in delivery of checked baggage of the types identified in paragraph (3) above which results solely from the unsuitability of such items as checked baggage and/or the inadequacy of their packaging, and not from carrier failure to exercise the ordinary standard of care.
    6. Conditions and limitations or restrictions for the acceptance of baggage which are applicable to carrier as outlined in this tariff apply locally on carrier or for interline transportation where carrier is involved in the routing.
  2. Quantity And/Or Size Maximums
No article will be accepted for transportation if the maximum outside linear dimensions exceed 80 in. or if the article weighs more than 70 pounds.

Exception 1: HA will accept one article weighing more than 50 lbs. but less than 70 lbs. tendered by a representative of the United States Secret Service or White House Communication Agency.

Exception 2: This provision does not apply to duffel bags, sea bags, or b-4 bags (Rule 220); sporting equipment (Rule 195); live animals (Rule 200); or cabin baggage (Rule 215).

Exception 3: (to/from points in the South Pacific) the maximum outside linear dimensions acceptable are 62 inches and/or weighing not more than 70 lbs.

Exception 4: (between points in the U.S.A. and Fukuoka and between points in Area 3 and Fukuoka). First piece 62 inches and weighing not more than 70 lbs. second piece 55 inches and weighing not more than 70 lbs.
  3. Acceptance of special items and pets
Special items and pets will only be accepted in accordance with the additional provisions and/or charges specified in Rules 100 (conditions for acceptance of special items) and 105 (pets).
