Container Rules
For customers with an established Hawaiian Air Cargo account, Hawaiian Airlines will furnish - free of charge -
LD2
/
LD8
containers and
LD7
pallets. This offer requires advance booking and is subject to availability at the time of request.
Credit account customers who use Hawaiian Airlines containers must abide by the following rules:
An empty container delivered to the shipper for loading must be returned to Hawaiian Airlines at the same airport within 48 hours.
A loaded container delivered to a consignee for unloading must be returned to Hawaiian Airlines at the same airport within 48 hours.
Important Notes:
If a container is not returned to Hawaiian Air Cargo within these time limits, a demurrage charge of $25 per container will be assessed for each 24-hour period (or fraction) that exceeds the initial 48-hour grace period.
If the container is not returned to Hawaiian Airlines at the same airport, a service charge of $200 will be assessed for each container in addition to all other applicable charges.
The shipper or consignee is liable for any loss, damage, repair or replacement costs of any container, structural parts, pallet supporter or straps that have been furnished by Hawaiian Airlines.
For any container not returned to Hawaiian Airlines within 30 days from the time of delivery, the shipper or consignee will be liable for the loss of the container. When charges for the loss of a container are assessed, rental charges do not apply. However, if a container reported lost is later returned to Hawaiian Airlines, rental charges will be assessed. This 30-day period will be counted from the first calendar day following delivery of the container.
Commodity Restrictions
Hawaiian Air Cargo cannot accept the following commodities for transportation in containers or on pallets.
Live animals, except live fish
Human remains
Restricted articles listed in the "Dangerous Goods Regulations" issued by International Air Transport Association (IATA)
Edible fish and seafood, live or dead, in Type E and EH containers.
Return Transportation of Empty Shipper-Owned Containers
Return transportation of empty shipper-owned containers will be arranged after of all other revenue traffic has been accommodated.
Each E and EH container must be folded flat, tendered as one piece and may not exceed 12 inches in total height. The exception to this rule is the case where two or more empty Type E or EH containers are tied together. If the bundled flats meet these requirements, the shipper will be assessed the applicable charge for only a single container.
Shipper-owned LD2/LD8 containers must be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and a copy of the certification must be supplied to Hawaiian Airlines on demand. In tendering the container, the shipper affirms that the container has been maintained in conformity with FAA regulations.
Hawaiian Airlines is authorized to use an empty shipper-owned container.
Container Loading and Unloading
The shipper must load and the consignee must unload containers at places other than Hawaiian Airlines' premises. As an exception to this rule, unloading service is available at all Hawaiian Airlines 767-300ER wide-body terminals upon request.
Unloading service will not be performed for articles of extraordinary value or for shipments moving under Customs Bond.
When unloading services are performed for the same container, charges will be the responsibility of the shipper for prepaid transportation, or charges will be the responsibility of the consignee for collect transportation.
