Everybody who travels to Hawaii has one...a favorite island spot or activity that is your “hidden secret.” Whether it’s a tucked-away gift shop, a secluded beach or the best place to get shave ice, these are your personal happy Hawaiian discoveries. With special fares starting at $348* RT, you can start finding your own Hawaii this fall.
Here are a few of our favorite island spots from the different islands:
GREAT FAMILY BEACH
Kailua Beach Park. Here you’ll escape from the Waikiki-size crowds and find an easy entry point to seemingly miles of open and available white-sand beaches and blue-green water. Great for families, it’s also one of the best places to kayak on Oahu, with several rental companies near the beach. Paddle out to the nearby Flat Island or Mokulua Island. Island of Oahu.
DRAMATIC WATERFALLS
Waipi’o Valley. Whether you decide to explore by chartered van, by horseback or on foot, "The Valley of Kings" is one of the Islands’ sacred treasures. Hike your way to the back of this lush valley to experience many waterfalls, including the highest on the Big Island: the 1,300-foot Hi‘ilawe Falls. Island of Hawaii.
TARO PATCHES
Keanae Arboretum. A half-mile past mile marker 16 on the Road to Hana Highway, stop at Keanae Arboretum. Hike past the many species of tropical plantings, including the painted bark eucalyptus trees, along the half-mile path, and as the landscape opens up (most visitors turn back before this) you’ll find yourself at a series of 500-year-old taro patches. Island of Maui.
BREATHTAKING VIEWS
Pu‘u o Kila Lookout. For one of the Hawaiian Islands’ most dramatic views, head to what Mark Twain dubbed "The Grand Canyon of the Pacific", Waimea Canyon. At the Kalalau Lookout around mile marker 18, when most people stop, you keep going to the spectacular Pu‘u o Kila Lookout. Don’t forget your camera. Island of Kauai.
Another little hidden Hawaii traveler secret is that fall is a great time to go. You’ll find it less crowded and that room rates are often better, but you’ll still enjoy the same great weather and activities.
So jet away with Hawaiian Airlines this autumn for some warm island hospitality, some fun in the sun and to spend time at a few of your favorite island places.
